The 29th installment of the Conference “Cultural Heritage and New Technologies” (CHNT) will be hosted from 4-6 November 2024 in Vienna, in the City Hall right in the heart of the metropolis. Marking the 60th anniversary of the Charter of Venice, this year’s conference will offer a variety of presentations, round tables, trainings and panels, as well as a poster session and different awards (ICOMOS Best Practice Award, Digital Creative Award, Student Award and Best Paper Award).
TMO is represented during this conference as part of our running 5Dculture Project, exhibiting the outcomes of our 2-year efforts in exploring different re-use scenarios for 3D digital cultural heritage.
5Dculture Panel
On 6 November our project team will host a 2-hour panel with the title “Heritage Reloaded: Innovative Reuse of 3D Cultural Content” featuring the following presentations:

- Jump into the Time Machine: 3D models of historic cityscapes for 4D exploration (Sander Münster, TMO (Demo case “Virtual educational museums”, “Virtual research infrastructure”, “Historic city information systems”)
- AI-enabled tools and services for 3D (Elisa Farella, Fondazione Bruno Kessler (AI tools)
- Postcards re-imagined: using 3D-enabled storytelling for Cultural Tourism (Matevž Straus, Arctur (Demo cases “Cultural Tourism”)
Additionally the partners will be presenting in other sessions such as:
- Monday, 4 November, Session on “AI for Cultural Heritage: Experiences and Advances” will feature our project partners from FBK (Fabio Remondino, Elisa Farella and Salim Malek) with the presentation: MAP2GIS – A new solution for the automatic vectorization of historical maps
- Tuesday, 5 November, Session on “Inventories for Cultural Landscapes” will feature the team of Discovery Programme Ireland with Anthony Corns (et al.) with: Developing a Machine Learning Model for Archaeological Lidar Data
Project Presentation
Our coordinators and the TMO-team will also be on site with an exhibition booth, allowing the visitors to experience our results first hand (Social VR, 4D Browser, Holographic postcards, 3D puzzles, etc.).
